West coast. 34km south of Rhodes Town. Archaeological site 2km from main road. Abandoned well-preserved ancient city, still undergoing excavation. Charge for entrance. No refreshments.
2km inland. 10km south of Monolithos. Agricultural village.
East coast, slightly inland. 8km south of Afandou. Large village. Shops, tavernas, bars. Traditional crafts, ceramics, leather, carpets. Church of St George example of 'wedding cake style' architecture.

Asklipion - Ασκληπιείν
Inland. 7km north of Gennadi by road. Overlooked by medieval castle. Traditional Greek village. Famous for bread-making. Byzantine church of the Dormition of Virgin Mary, 1060.
Dimilia - Διμυλιά
Inland. On Eleousa - Soroni road. Small village, characteristically Greek.
Eleousa - Ελεούσα
Inland. 4km east of Archipoli. Small village. Italianate Plaza from Italian occupation.
Embona - Εμπώνας
Inland. 13km from Kritinia by road. Overlooked by Mount Ativaros, highest peak on Rhodes. Characteristic Greek village. Wine production, traditional crafts. Tavernas, restaurants and shops.
Epta Piges - Εφτά Πιγές
Along Kolimbia - Archipoli road. Natural springs into stream leading to lake. Walk through tunnel connects stream to lake. Toilets. Taverna. Peacocks. Walk through pine forest.
Faliraki - Φαληράκι
East coast. 5km north of Afandou. Busy tourist resort. Large hotels, bars, clubs, restaurants and shops. Many activities - bungee-jumping, go-karting etc. Long sandy beach. Sunbeds, watersports, showers and tavernas. Nearby 26 feature waterpark, free transport from Rhodes Town.
Fountoukli - Φουντουκλή
Inland. 2km east of Eleousa. Byzantine chapel of Aghios Nikolas Fountoukli. 14th century. Natural spring water opposite church.
Gennadi - Γεννάδι
East coast. South east of island, 16km from Lindos. Shingle and sand beach. Seafood tavernas. Working Greek village.
Haraki - Χαράκι
East coast. 9km south of Archangelos. Crescent shaped bay. Fine shingle and sand beach. Swimming and snorkelling. Tavernas. Overlooked by 14th century Feralkos Castle.
Ialysos - Ιάλυσος
Inland. 10km southwest of Rhodes Town. Also known as Filerimos. Site of ancient city. Byzantine church Chapel of Aghios Georgios. Stations of the Cross lead to large cross overlooking island. Church of Our Lady of Filerimos and Byzantine monastery (entrance fee to this). Cafe selling drinks and snacks. Plenty of parking.
Ixia - Ιξιά
West coast. 5km south of Rhodes Town. Busy resort. Hotels, bars, restaurants, clubs and shops. Dark sand, shingle and pebble beach. Almost constant breeze. Sunbeds, watersports and showers. Rhodes Town easily reached by taxi.
Kalavarda - Καλλαβάρδα
West coast. 3.5km north of Ancient Kameiros. Small hamlet. Tavernas. Pebble beach, no facilities.
Kalithea - Καλλιθέα
East coast. 10.5km from Rhodes Town. Abandoned medicinal springs and associated buildings, undergoing renovation. Rocky bay, snorkelling. Sandy beach, sunbeds.
Kameiros Skala - Κάμειρος Σκάλα
West coast. 51km south of Rhodes Town. Harbour for inland town of Kritinia. Tavernas. Ferry point for island of Chalki. Not easy to reach by bus.
Kattavia - Κατταβία
Inland. 20.5km south of Gennadi. Southernmost village on island (others are hamlets). Tavernas and cafes. Traditional Greek village.
Kolymbia - Κολιμπία
East coast. 3km from Afandou. Three sandy beaches. Tavernas, restaurants, bars and shops.
Koskinou - Κοσκινού
10km inland from Rhodes Town. Traditional Rhodian houses. Bars, tavernas and restaurants.
Kritinia - Κρητηνία
3km inland. 3km south of Kameiros Skala. Working Greek village. Village square. Tavernas. Folk museum. Near Kritinia Castle, 15th century, ruined but accessible.
Ladiko - Λαδικού
East coast. 4.5km north of Afandou. Bay enclosed by headlands. Small sandy beach and taverna. Some sunbeds. Better known as Anthony Quinn bay.
Lardos - Λάρδος
Inland. 8km east of Lindos. Small village with square. Bars and tavernas. Italian architecture.
Lindos - Λίνδος
East coast. 26km south of Afandou. Regular bus service from Rhodes Town, via Afandou, journey approx. 30 mins. Village at base of acropolis reached by steps from village. Charge for entrance to acropolis. Traffic only permitted as far as village square. Shops, tavernas and bars. Small bay, sandy beach and sunbeds. Parking limited at outskirts of village.
Malona - Μαλώνα
Inland. 5km from Archangelos. Working Greek village with little tourism.
Mandriko - Μανδρυκό
West coast. 5km north of Kameiros Skala. Small working agricultural village.
Maritsa - Μαριτσά
Inland. 15km north of Afandou. Tavernas and cafes. Working Greek village.
Masari - Μάσαρη
Neighbouring village of Malona (2.5km). Working Greek village with little tourism.
Overlooks Tsambika beach. Turning before beach if approaching from Afandou. 16th century. Saint's Day 8th September. 300 shallow steps from car park which is half way along the approach road.
Monolithos - Μονόλιθος
West coast. 17km south of Kritinia. Village slightly inland, leads to famous monolith meaning 'single rock'. 236m high, reached by road then steep steps. Monolith topped by crusader castle and 15th century chapel, Aghios Panteleimon. Tavernas and shops in village. Small taverna, with toilet, at base of monolith. Difficult to reach by bus.
Pefki - Πεύκοι
East coast. 4.5km south of Lindos. Small village with long sandy beach. Snorkelling at either end of main beach. Sunbeds and some watersports.
Petaloudes - Πεταλούδες
Inland. Northern part of island, 5km from Psinthos. Known as the 'Valley of the Butterflies'. Butterflies mainly present July and August. Green valley with stream. Tavernas in middle and bottom of valley. Top of valley - Kalopetra Monastery, sells limited drinks and snacks. Taxi or car access only, no buses.
Platania - Πλατάνια
Inland. 6km east of Archipoli. Small traditional Greek village. Church of Aghios Georgios, 1850.
Plimiri - Πλημμήρι
East coast. 15km south of Gennadi by road. Fishing harbour. Taverna. Church. Crescent shaped beach, fine shingle backed by sand dunes. Quiet.
Prasonisi - Πρασονήσι
Extreme south of island. Small islet joined to mainland by sand spit, not always open. Large sandbank which provides parking. Aegean Sea, rough on right-hand side. Mediterranean Sea, calm, on left-hand side. Two tavernas. Small mini-market. Showers. Can be windy. No bus service.
Profitis Ilias - Προφιτίς Ηλίας
Inland. 8km east of Eleousa. Third highest peak on Rhodes. Two chalet-style hotels, Elafos (stag) and Elafina (doe). Built by Italians. Abandoned but being renovated. Pine forests. Small cafe.
Psinthos - Ψίνθος
Inland. 8.5km east of Afandou. Traditional Greek village. Large square. Tavernas. Small shops.
Rhodes Town - Ρόδος
Extreme north of island. Capital town. Three main harbours, best known is Mandraki. Two beaches, coarse sand, sunbeds and Aquarium. Parking and driving can be challenging. Stands on site of ancient city. Divided into medieval Old Town and New Town. Old Town - no traffic, tavernas, restaurants, shops, Palace of Grand Masters, Museum of Decorative Arts and Street of Knights. Evidence of Turkish occupation. Medieval walls and dry moat. New Town - Nea Agora (New Market). Modern shops. Offices and official buildings. Hotels, restaurants, tavernas, bars and clubs.
Salakos - Σάλακος
Inland. 8km south of Kalavarda. Working Greek village. 14th century Church of the Assumption.
Sianna - Σιάνα
4km inland. 5km north of Monolithos. Small Greek village. Honey production. Origin of Suma - a local drink.
Stegna - Στεγνά
East coast. Cove and beach. 1.5km from Archangelos. Fine shingle and sand beach, sunbeds and tavernas.
Theologos - Θεολόγος
West coast. 4km south of airport. Also known as Tholos. Farming and fishing village. Two large hotels and tavernas. Pebble beach and sunbeds.
Traganou - Τραγανού
East coast. Northern end of Afandou beach. Caves. Pebble beach. Taverna.
Tsambika - Τσαμπίκα
East coast. 8km south of Afandou. Sandy beach only. Sunbeds, watersports, beach cantinas, toilets and showers. Plenty of parking. Bus to beach once in morning and one return in afternoon.
Vlicha - Βλυχά
East coast. 15km south of Archangelos. Fine shingle beach, sunbeds, restaurants and cafes.
